Freezing temperatures, 50 years

Niagara Falls, winter storm, icy conditions

The deadly winter storm that has swept across the United States has led to the rare phenomenon of Niagara Falls almost freezing over. The cold temperatures combined with the powerful winds of the storm have caused ice to accumulate on the edges of the falls and parts of the rapids. The falls were still flowing, but the ice buildup is something that hasnt been seen in more than 50 years. The storm is the deadliest in the US in more than 50 years, with at least 40 deaths reported so far. It has caused power outages, travel disruption and freezing temperatures across the country. In Niagara Falls, where temperatures have dropped to -15C (5F), the ice buildup has made the falls look like a winter wonderland. The U.S. National Park Service has said the area around the falls has been closed due to the icy conditions. The icy conditions are expected to last for a few more days, but the falls are expected to return to their normal state once the storm passes.
On Monday, president Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration allowing federal support for New York.
‘My heart is with those who lost loved ones this holiday weekend,’ he tweeted.
